5 Tips for Improving Your Outdoor Kitchen Landscape

Landscape Design Rio Linda

In the Greater Sacramento area, an outdoor kitchen is nearly everyone’s landscaping dream. Imagine being able to go outside in the warm weather, invite a bunch of friends over, and cook up a storm while everyone enjoys the warm summer evenings and the incredible Northern California ambiance.

Whether you live in Roseville, Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Lincoln, Elk Grove – this entire are is practically made for outdoor living, and an outdoor kitchen is how you make that possible. But an outdoor kitchen is only one part of the landscape. There are some complementary landscaping features that can really make your landscape design pop.

Other Landscape Features to Consider

  • Covered Patio – Cooking outside is wonderful. But you don’t want the hot sun at your back, nor do you want to risk what would happen if a bird laid a little waste right up above your meal. Covered patios make it easier to cook and relax, while you still enjoy the warmth of the landscape around you.
  • Mosquito Repelling Plants – Nothing ruins a landscape more than mosquitos. That’s why it’s always a good idea to consider installing mosquito repelling plants. Place these plants all around your garden and near your eating area and you’ll be far more likely to avoid bites throughout the year.
  • Seating Walls – Chairs are fine, but there are times when you are going to run out of chairs or chairs will be unavailable. Seating walls are a great way to make sure that everyone has a place to sit, and that you have some type of permanent seating arrangement in your landscape architecture.
  • Fire Pit – Outdoor kitchens are usually used when it’s warm. But what about when the weather cools down? A fire put can make sure that your guests have a nice, relaxing place to stay warm while you cook. It’s a fun addition that can also serve as a good table if your guests need to put down their foods.
  • One More Feature/Activity – Ask yourself: what are your guests going to do while you cook? If possible, you may want to consider one more feature or activity. For example, on a larger lawn you may want to consider a putting green, or a waterfall or koi pond to really catch the eye. These extra features give your guests somewhere to look and something to do while you cook.

As always, the only limit is your own imagination, and certainly an outdoor kitchen alone is still an excellent landscape upgrade.
